Weller Bungalows pavement patch fixed

I’m relieved to report that the stretch of pavement outside Weller Bungalows I reported over a year ago has finally been done.

Several times Highways have told me it was being done. It got marked up and even got the cone and tape treatment at one point – but still didn’t get done!

This is a great result for the community but there are many more patches and road surfaces that need attention. If you know of anywhere that needs sorting, please get in touch.

Overhanging trees

The trees on Cole Avenue are overhanging the footbridge from Podsmead over into Tuffley.

I’ve asked for them to be cut back and will keep pressing the council for action on these.

There is a backlog of tree works due to Covid. The tree team do a good job but I’d like to see more resources allocated to allow them to deal with more cases.

Nearby to the footbridge one of the poplar trees along Cole Avenue came down during the storm the other evening.

Long term we need to look at the safety issues of having tall trees like this along a highway.

Newark Road

I have reported the highways issues in Newark Road to the county council.

Below is the text of my email:

Good afternoon

There are numerous highways issues in Newark Road, Podsmead.
I have attached some photos and it would be much appreciated if an inspection could be carried out.

Best wishes,

Sebastian Field

And the response:

Issue: General Carriageway issues
Location: Newark Road, Podsmead

Arrangements have been made to repair the identified issue and work will commence within the required fault repair time – please see the Highways Policy for further details.

We will keep you up to date with progress.

Thank you again for taking the time to report the above issue.

I attended a bike ? marking event run by Gloucestershire Constabulary.

Stormy weather

The storm has caused some issues in Gloucester with fallen trees, flooding and other hazards. Please take care and if there is an emergency highways problem to report, there is helpful advice below from Gloucestershire Roads:

Pavement Problem

The pavement at Tuffley Crescent which I arranged to get fixed has started to crumble again.

I have written to Gloucester City Homes to let them know, and we will keep an eye on this as the development progresses.

If you spot a pothole, or a pavement or road surface that’s breaking up in Podsmead, do please let me know.

Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki 75 years on

75 years ago on 6th August 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima in Japan. Another was dropped on Nagasaki a few days later.

We are still feeling the after effects, even 75 years on.

We must remember and reflect on this use of nuclear weapons and work constantly towards a peaceful world.

Ed Davey’s green recovery plan

Acting Liberal Democrat leader and leadership candidate Ed Davey has launched a green recovery plan to halt climate change,
and help lead a green recovery from Covid.

Here is a link to the plan on the Guardian website.

Climate change is and will be a central issue for us all.

We have a golden opportunity to respond to the challenges Covid has presented by not only improving our environment but also creating green jobs and tackling the unemployment that might arise as a result of the pandemic.

It is crucial that we don’t go back to ‘business as usual’ but that we rewild, plant, and grow our economy whilst being good environmental stewards.
