There are some great events for the family at the One Church, Podsmead, over the summer. All the events are free. The church meets at The Ramblers on Milton Avenue. I am pleased to support these events from the Podsmead ward councillor fund.
Walkabout in Tuffley Park
I met with the city council parks and open spaces manager recently in Tuffley Park, to look at various issues in the vicinity.
🔐 We checked out the gate the travellers got in. An extra padlock has been installed but bollards are not the answer here as travellers can just remove them. This council focuses on speed of eviction. More on this soon.
🛝 the swing has been replaced in the park
🌳 there are some dead trees which the council are aware of
🪵 the benches are looking good (thanks Friends of Tuffley Park 🌳)
🌺 the wildflowers are starting to go over now but have looked great
🌱 the grass verges have been strimmed

Call for action on deep pothole on Shakespeare Avenue
I have urged the county council to fill in a deep pothole on Shakespeare Avenue. We will have to monitor the state of this road as it may soon require a resurface.
Recently, nearby Scott Avenue was done by the highways department. I had lobbied for this to be done for some time.
Cost of resurfacing of Scott Avenue
I was very pleased to see Scott Avenue resurfaced in January this year, following years of campaigning.
I asked officers for a breakdown of the cost and received the following reply:
Following on from our email correspondence below regarding the cost of re-surfacing Scott Avenue, an officer in the Structural Maintenance Team has responded as follows:
“The estimated budget for the scheme is £65k, however, individual schemes that are complete typically take quite a few months to undertake snagging works, final measuring, and agreement of final invoices with contractors and as such the costs may increase slightly.”
I will keep fighting to improve Podsmead’s roads and pavements.
